Founded in 1998 by Christian Hugonnet, the association La Semaine du Son, an NGO partner of UNESCO, aims to raise awareness among all players in society of the importance of the quality of our sound environment, in 5 areas:

– Hearing health

– Acoustics and sound environment

– Recording and reproduction

– Image and sound

– Musical expression and pedagogy

The actions of La Semaine du Son are as follows:

Adoption in 2017 of resolution 39C/59 by UNESCO to raise global awareness of sound issues, resulting from the Week of Sound Charter.

– Since 2004,a week of conferences and round tables at UNESCO (and in partnership with UNESCO since 2019) in January in Paris and throughout France, sponsored each year by a celebrity (Erik Orsenna, André Manoukian, Jean-Michel Jarre, Ibrahim Maalouf, Nathalie Dessay, Jordi Savall, Michel Drucker, Costa-Gavras, Jacques Attali, Raymond Depardon, Maxime Le Forestier among others).

– Organization of conferences and round tables abroad throughout the year (Canada, Egypt, Belgium, Argentina, Brazil, Norway, among others).

– Since 2018, organization of the “Best Sound Creation Award” presented at the Cannes Film Festival.

– Organization since 2018 of the “When Sound Creates Image” competition for students and amateurs in France and abroad in partnership with the French Education Nationale and the network of UNESCO-accredited schools internationally. Participants must make a film based on a 1mn42s piece of music specially composed by a renowned composer (Thomas Dutronc, Greco Casadesus, Jean Musy, Gabriel Yared, Ibrahim Maalouf among others).

– In 2025, development and launch of the Decibelator, a sound level display to be installed in public places to raise awareness of the value of sound levels.

– Creation of a “Sound Quality” label with Universal Music to highlight productions that respect natural sound dynamics and avoid over-compression, which is particularly harmful to hearing.

Partner benefits :

Tax reduction. La Semaine du Son is recognized as an association of general social interest.
Corporate donations entitle companies to a corporate tax reduction equal to 60 % of the amount invested. 10,000 euros of donations will “cost” only 4,000 euros.

Invitation to a dinner/debate in the lounges of the Senate with the various partners and in the presence of several senators.
